Drug & Alcohol Treatment Program Richmond VA
– A 28-day Comprehensive Program –
At Williamsville Wellness, we believe that the key to successful and lasting recovery is through individual attention. Where other addiction treatment centers rely primarily on group therapy sessions, we provide 15+ one-on-one sessions per week with our multidisciplinary staff. In our treatment programs for alcohol and substance abuse, Williamsville Wellness addresses the body, mind, spirit through a variety of techniques to help patients identify barriers to recovery. Within individual and group sessions, our patients are able to address behaviors, contributing factors to addiction, emotional and mental health, family issues, and the impact of addiction on body, mind, and spirit.
Some patients enter our 28-day substance abuse treatment program after being referred by a health care professional who, familiar with their situation and prior treatments, will suggest a residential treatment program as the next best step. Others come to us because they have tried other programs or approaches that did not work for them and they are now ready to dedicate themselves to a new level of therapy. Sometimes, people just know that they are ready. Often, family interventions can prompt patients to seek out our drug rehab in Richmond, VA as well.
The 28-day Comprehensive Program at Williamsville Wellness is an intensive alcohol and drug addiction treatment program. Throughout treatment, patients stay within one of our warm and welcoming houses – an environment for recovery much different than the stale, clinical setting found at most other rehabs. Our licensed and experienced team of professionals provide drug and alcohol treatment in a fully-licensed and certified environment.

Our Addiction Treatment Modalities
Williamsville Wellness offers addiction treatment based on individual needs, focusing on the body, mind and spirit. Our therapy modalities include:
Evidence-Based Psychotherapy Approaches
Therapists at Williamsville Wellness implement multiple approaches based on individual needs to address addiction and mental health problems. Therapy approaches include:
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
- Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT)
- Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
- Schema Therapy
Group therapy is a commonly used treatment modality for individuals suffering from addiction. Our group sessions tend to focus on interpersonal processing, skills building, and psychoeducational material to promote recovery.
On-site, telephonic, or video conference sessions with family is suggested after the second week of treatment. Through family therapy, loved ones will be educated on addiction and learn how the entire family can support the patient. Family therapy can consist of half day or full day on-site visits and include meetings with psychologists, therapists, and peer counselors to address areas such as recovery planning, rebuilding trust, parenting, and establishing emotional safety.
Art therapy is the therapeutic use of art-making through a variety of mediums (e.g. painting, sculpting, woodwork, etc.). By creating art and reflecting on the product and process, people can increase awareness of self and others, cope with symptoms, and enjoy the pleasure of making art. Our art therapist works with patients in individual, group, and family sessions.
Mindfulness is the practice of maintaining a present focus on our thoughts, feelings, body sensations, and surrounding environments without creating judgment. When we practice mindfulness, our thoughts tune into what we’re sensing in the present moment rather than rehashing the past or imagining the future. This is particularly helpful for addicts who have difficulty tolerating emotional experiences. Patients will have plenty of opportunities to practice mindfulness meditations in therapy with our mindfulness coach.
Hypnosis is a guided relaxation technique to promote a state of extreme focus of the mind in order to bring subconscious thoughts, feelings, memories, and images to the conscious level for better processing. Hypnotherapy can be used to help patients gain control over their undesired behaviors or help them cope better with anxiety and pain. Patients have the opportunity to work with a therapist specially trained in hypnosis during our 28-day program.
Work with a therapist to address issues surrounding the expression of anger. Learn and practice techniques for calming down and responding to feelings of anger effectively and assertively. Anger management is based on the premise that anger is a normal emotion when expressed appropriately.
Psychological and Cognitive Testing
Confidential testing identifies strengths and weaknesses of our patients, including an analysis of their personality characteristics and cognitive capacity. Testing is just one tool we use to help the patient understand the core issues leading to their addictive behavior.
Seeing others who have struggled with drug or alcohol addiction and have been able to live successfully in recovery provides hope and inspiration for those still trapped by addiction. Support and guidance from others in recovery becomes a powerful motivator and a beacon of hope for our patients.
Twelve Step Process
Our peer counselors help patients understand the 12-Step philosophy and facilitate step-work with patients. Patients attend on- and off-site 12-Step meetings each week while in our program. In addition, the 12-Step philosophy is often integrated into individual sessions.
For patients who are ambivalent about 12-step philosophy, Williamsville Wellness also offers a 12-step alternative program: SMART principles for recovery. The SMART series focuses on applying scientific knowledge and reason to achieve recovery from addiction, with less emphasis on spirituality.
Massage therapy aids in enhancing a patient’s health and well-being by reducing stress, relaxing muscles, reducing pain, and rehabilitating injury. Massage therapy is offered weekly to patients at Williamsville Wellness.
Yoga is a series of exercises for mental and physical health, utilizing breath control, simple meditation, and deliberate bodily posture. Yoga can be used as a way of coping with stress, pain, anxiety, and encouraging individuals to be in the present (i.e., be mindful). A yoga class is offered 1-2 times per week at Williamsville Wellness.
Exercise and Nutrition
Our patients have access to an onsite gym to work out as part of a healthy lifestyle. Also, balanced and nutritious meals are provided by our award-winning chef and can be tailored to dietary preferences.
Patients will learn life skills, such as cooking and meal planning that will help support a holistic recovery. Patients work with our chef once a week in this group experience.
Recreational and Activity Therapy
On- and off-site opportunities for recreation are available to patients at Williamsville Wellness. Some example activities are: bowling, putt-putt, movies, and board game time. These activities are offered to help patients learn that they can have fun even while sober.
